If you are having any problems using Crew Talk then please see below for answers to some common questions and issues. If you are still unable to use the service, then please contact us by email with a detailed description of the problem.
Can I view the Crew Talk forums without being registered?
Yes. You can view all the discussion forums without being registered but you cannot post messages of your own to any of the topics without registering with MyITF.
Why do I need to register with MyITF?
Registration allows users to post messages on the forums. Posting requires registration in order to prevent 'junk' or 'spam' messages appearing on the forum regularly.
What details do I need to provide when I register?
All you need to register with MyITF is an active email account and a password. We also ask for your name, a country of residence and a 'screen nickname'. To ensure anonymity when posting on ITF Seafarers, please choose your nickname carefully.
If you would like to know more about the ITF privacy policy, please click on the Terms of Use link on the right of this page.
Once you have entered your details, a confirmation message will be sent to the email address you have provided, notifying you of successful registration.
Once I have registered where else can I use the MyITF account?
As soon as you have successfully registered, you can post replies on the Inspector's Blog and messages on the Crew Talk discussion forums. You can also access MyITF email subscription services.
You can manage your MyITF account from the ITF Seafarers or ITF Global websites as soon as you are logged in.
How do I post a message in Crew Talk?
First of all you need to be logged in so make sure you click on the link at the top of the page or at the top/bottom of the forum message you are viewing in order to do this. Once you are logged in you can click on a link that takes you back to the page you were viewing. Select the forum post on which you wish to comment and then click on 'Reply'. Enter a reply in the window which pops up. Here you can format your text and, when ready, post it to the forum or preview it first. When you click on the 'Reply' button at the bottom of the window your reply will appear on the forum moments later. You can also use the Quick Reply function at the bottom of the screen and enter the text directly in the box below.
Why isn't my forum post appearing?
It can sometimes take a moment for a post to appear on the forum as the software first needs to process it. If your post has not appeared after 10 minutes then please retry ensuring it contains no profanity or offensive material. If there is still a problem then please contact us using the email link at the top of this page with a detailed description of the problem.
ITF Seafarers does not support the posting of offensive material and the blog and discussion forums are regularly moderated to ensure any such posts do not appear or are removed. Please see our Terms of Use on the right of this page for more information.
How do I start a new discussion topic?
If you would like to start a new discussion topic, first make sure you are logged in using the link at the top of the page or at the top of Crew Talk. Then click on the 'New Topic' link and enter your title and post following the on-screen instructions before posting it to the forums.
Will people that look at Crew Talk see my email address and name if I post a message?
No. Once you are registered you will be prompted to choose a 'screen nickname'. Whenever you post on the forums your nickname is the only information that appears next to your response. To ensure anonymity when posting on ITF Seafarers, please choose your nickname carefully.
What is the Profile link for?
The 'Profile' link at the top of all pages in Crew Talk gives you access to your forum profile. Here you can choose to add information about yourself if you wish to do so. If you have any concerns about anonymity when using Crew Talk then do not add personal details under your profile.
If you click on 'Personal Options' you can choose to make your profile unavailable to other users and switch various other functions on and off. The default personal settings are all switched to off except private messaging – which you can also select to 'off'. If you prefer to have this 'on', other users can contact you privately but without knowledge of your email address. You will receive email notification if you receive a private message.
How do I logout of MyITF?
At the top right of each page on ITF Seafarers, there is a logout link you can use. We recommend that you logout of MyITF at the end of your session viewing or posting on the site. If you are using a shared computer or one in a public space, ITF Seafarers strongly recommends you do not save your login information on the computer (do not select the 'Remember Me' box when logging in or 'Remember these Details' on the web browser) and logout when you have finished using it.
What if I have forgotten my password?
If you have forgotten your MyITF password, please click the login link at the top right of any page in ITF Seafarers and then select the 'forgotten Password' link at the bottom of the screen. Enter your email address and an email will be sent to you containing a link that invites you to select a new password.
