i have found that recently (within the last year deffinatly) with food prices on the steady increase, the company which i work for have gave us a 50p per man day raise in the victual food rate. the chief cook worked out, to buy the same stores now as opposed to 12 months ago, would need a raise of approx £1 per man day. i don't know if anyone else, in other companies, has found this to be the case, but surely this is tantamount to a drop in conditions, which i thought was unaxeptable.
great web site BTW

food here in terms of quality n quantity very good!and avaialble 24 hrs a day are milk, juices, fruits, breads n biscuits, cheezes, butters, spreads, coldcuts, canned goods ,noodles and swedish foods great also..but i must say since being from the philippines and on a ship where the majority of the crew are filipinos and doing 6 months on contract and the rest are swedish.i msut say that cannot be help but missed filipino foods serve on board on a regular basis.other foreign natinal flag ships does that too!knock knock!maybe they better start hiring second cooks to do the cooking for filipino seafarers on ships where the majority of the crew are filipinos.

IN MY COMPANY (NITC) THE SITUATION IS SAME. BEFORE ALL THEASE FOOD PRICE THE RATION WAS 7 US$ PER MAN PER DAY AND STILL THERE IS NO CHANGE. THE QUANTITY AND PERHAPS THE QUALITY OF FOODS SERVED IS REDUCED SIGNIFICANTLY. HERE MOST OF CREW ARE IRANIANS. THE QUALITY OF FOOD IS MOSTLY DEPENDED ON THE CHIEF COOK .

depends on the company. I have worked on ships where its good, plenty of the food we get at home. but other ships where there isnt enough food, no fresh stuff like fruits or vegetables. only frozen cheap meat. Sometime you end up eating the same thing day after day. at the moment the food is no too bad. could be more rice instead of potato all the time.

Has anyone else had the Company Seachef contracted to do the catering on board their ship?

oh my gosh!!!!!i don't know how to explaine our food here..i am a filipina and we work here 5months already together with korean crew but their food are very different we try to eat on the start but we can't take.... beside spicy foods it is very different..all of the filipino here are complaining about the foods.mostly we eat soup and rice only, much better if we receive our pay onboard so we can buy food outside.we are thankful that we have noodles and rice....we have Filipino cook also but they make here as messman and they not allowed to cook filipino,  european or american food so that we can eat well also.all of our contract here are not followed.like me, i sign as cabin stewardess but we work here as all around and we aggreed also coz we are here already...so, we said ok. we want to go home but they said that we will pay double our plane ticket.. can anyone of u give me an advice not only for me for my pinoy co-worker also.. coz we request already for good food but they don't implement.and i have something to say also that sometimes, the food that they serve are going to expired or almost expired but we don't mind.just keep silence and ignore the food.but when we noticed with the pinoy crew he show me that the bread they are preparing for the crew is expired already.we don't mind also but for me   it not good,....we have training a lot i want to preven tbut i do not have power here.please advice me what shoud i do?

PANGGA dont be histerical, even if its expired and good frozen is still good for chop chop. I don't know where your ship is sailing, but ports in Brazil, or USA are very strict, so food must be always in good condition.

As I remember my filipino crew in Korea on the shipyard they love korean food, especially kim-chi. Its very simmilar food.

When you are at sea having good food and a good cook makes such a big difference while you are onboard a vessel.

It helps with morale of the crew, as you look forward to meal times and you can enjoy eating the food together, it can become a social event and bring the crewmembers together.

A bit like reminding you of  the family meals that you miss while you are away!

How true, Brooklyn, food is very important, it's not like we can go ashore and find a local restaurant when we're at sea! We need to have fresh fruits, vegetables and a variaty of different food, and of course a good cook!

One important thing I have learn't at sea never upset the cook and if you also want to know what the latest news in regards to next port or general news the cook always seems to have the knowledge ?

Do you think your drinking water is actually hygienic. I sometime doubt our drinking water is contaminated by bacteria.

The drinking water all depends on the state of the fresh water tanks onboard and also the quantity of the water brought onboard !!

That's true, Kiwi23, and I do have doubts about the water sometimes! If I can't have water from a bottle, I use a special jug I bought with a special filter that cleans the water.
