The best way to ensure that your rights at work are protected is to join a union.

Union members generally have higher wages than workers who are not members of a union. Union members also tend to have better working conditions, shorter working hours and better health and safety. Union members are better protected against unfair treatment at work.

The ITF has over 650 member unions, nearly 200 of which represent seafarers. Our seafarers’ unions are spread across almost 100 countries worldwide, bringing together over 650,000 seafarers, both officers and ratings.
