New app for seafarers seeking help

16 June 2017

The International Seafarers’ Welfare and Assistance Network (ISWAN) has launched a new app for seafarers to contact SeafarerHelp, its free, confidential helpline for seafarers around the world. Seafarers can now use the mobile messaging app WhatsApp to contact the helpline. By using the app, seafarers can avoid SMS fees and calling charges (although ISWAN says that SeafarerHelp will always call seafarers back if they have no internet connection and are only able to phone).

The WhatsApp number is: +44 (0)7909 470732, and the helpline will be staffed from Monday to Friday between 8am and 6pm (UK time). SeafarerHelp will respond to any messages received outside these hours within the monitored times. All other contact methods for SeafarerHelp remain available for 24 hours a day – see: www.seafarerhelp.org
