Princess of the Stars inquiry names names

The Philippines Board of Marine Inquiry’s report into the Princess of the Stars ferry disaster has blamed the ferry master’s bad judgement and owner Sulpicio’s negligence for the sinking. The report says that Captain Florencio Marimon failed “to take extra ordinary diligence and… evasive action to save the vessel and his passengers” when the ferry sailed into a typhoon on 21 June, despite weather warnings. The report said: “an error of judgement on the part of the master and the others are contributory errors of negligence and complacency.” The Board concluded its inquiry on 7 August.
