Economic downturn hits range of trade

14 November 2008

As the economic downturn hits the demand for goods, CKYH Alliance has announced cuts to its long-haul container services. The Alliance, which includes Coscon, K Line, Yang Ming and Hanjin Shipping, has suspended its all water East Coast central loop and Asia-East Mediterranean trade and is reducing its Pacific South West trade. The suspension will effectively reduce the Alliance's weekly capacity from Asia to North Europe by 9%. Hanjin Shipping will also reduce its US-Europe service.

A cross-Channel ferry service has been halted after its sole vessel was seized for non-payment of port dues. The SpeedFerrries SpeedOne catamaran ferry, which operates between Dover and Boulogne-sur-Mer, was seized in Boulogne on 6 November over the company's failure to pay port dues.
