Owners call for Hebei Two to be allowed home

22 May 2009

The tanker owners' association Intertanko has added its voice to the call for the Indian seafarers known as the Hebei Two to be allowed home from South Korea. More than 40 members of Intertanko’s council have written to the South Korean Supreme Court asking for Jasprit Chawla and Syam Chetan to be allowed to return to their home country pending a judgement from a lower court.

The two seafarers have been held in South Korea following an oil spillage from their ship, Hebei Spirit, in December 2007. They have been forced to remain in the country pending the confirmation by a lower court that the charges against them should be dismissed.
