MISC Berhad crew to get free email

12 June 2009

Crew on the 100-plus vessels owned by MISC Berhad will benefit from a new crew communications package that will give them free private email, low-cost SMS (text messaging) and voice calling. Individual seafarers will be given their own personal mailbox, and an international SMS number that can be used on any ship and on shore. Receipt of SMS messages and email will be free of charge.

The deal is part of a crew retention programme, and is in line with an ITF recommendation that all seafarers should be offered a free private email service to enable them to stay in touch with family and friends while at sea.
