Ofer buys up bankrupt Eastwind ships

The Israeli shipowner Sammy Ofer has bought up 13 ships owned by the New York-based Eastwind Maritime, which has just gone bankrupt. The ship's have been bought through Ofer's Monaco-based Samama's Draften Shipping.

Eastwind, which owned 48 vessels, filed for bankruptcy after a series of lawsuits and vessel arrests.

The Ofer shipping chain owned 235 vessels before the latest acquisitions.
