UK detains six foreign ships

16 June 2017

The United Kingdom’s Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) detained six foreign-flagged ships during May 2017 after they failed port inspections. The detentions included three new vessels.

The Liberia-flagged Anam was found to have nine deficiencies and detained on four grounds, including lack of fire drills. The Norway-flagged Gann had 14 deficiencies, and was detained for lack of international safety management (ISM). The Bahamas-flagged Ocean Nova was found to have seven deficiencies and was detained for not having watertight doors.

The India-flagged Malaviya Seven, arrested in Aberdeen, Scotland last October, continues in detention for non-payment of wages to crew and four other deficiencies.
