Inspector's Blog Help
If you are having any problems using the Inspector's Blog then please see below for answers to some common questions and issues. If you are still unable to use the service, then please contact us by email with a detailed description of the problem.
Can I view the blog without being registered?
Yes. You can view all the blog posts and comments without being registered but you cannot post any of your own replies to the blog without registering with MyITF.
Why do I need to register with MyITF?
Registration allows users to post comments on blog posts. Posting requires registration in order to prevent 'junk' or 'spam' messages appearing on the blog regularly.
What details do I need to provide when I register?
All you need to register with MyITF is an active email account and a password. We also ask for your name, a country of residence and a 'screen nickname'. To ensure anonymity when posting on ITF Seafarers, please choose your nickname carefully.
If you would like to know more about the ITF privacy policy, please click on the Terms of Use link on the right of this page.
Once you have entered your details, a confirmation message will be sent to the email address you have provided, notifying you of successful registration.
Once I have registered where else can I use the MyITF account?
As soon as you have successfully registered, you can post replies on the Inspector's Blog and messages on the Crew Talk discussion forums. You can also access MyITF email subscription services.
You can manage your MyITF account from the ITF Seafarers or ITF Global websites as soon as you are logged in.
How do I post a reply on the blog?
First of all you need to be logged in so make sure you click on the link at the top of the page or at the bottom of the blog post you are viewing in order to do this. Once you are logged in you can click on a link that takes you back to the page you were viewing. Select the blog post on which you wish to comment and then click on 'Post a Comment'. Enter a reply in the window which pops up. Here you can format your text and, when ready, post it to the blog or preview it first. When you click on the 'Post a Comment' button at the bottom of the window your reply will appear on the blog moments later.
Why isn't my blog comment appearing?
It can sometimes take a moment for a comment to appear on the blog as the software first needs to process it. If your post has not appeared after 10 minutes then please retry ensuring it contains no profanity or offensive material. If there is still a problem then please contact us using the email link at the top of this page with a detailed description of the problem.
ITF Seafarers does not support the posting of offensive material and the blog and discussion forums are regularly moderated to ensure any such posts do not appear or are removed. Please see our Terms of Use on the right of this page for more information.
Will people that look at the blog see my email address and name if I post a reply?
No. Once you are registered you will be prompted to choose a 'screen nickname'. Whenever you post on the blog your nickname is the only information that appears next to your response. To ensure anonymity when posting on ITF Seafarers, please choose your nickname carefully.
What are the 'Archives' and 'Categories' at the side of the page?
Each blog post has a subject-related category and can also be viewed alongside other posts from the same month. Use the Archive and Category links to view the posts sorted by these strands.
How do I logout of MyITF?
At the top right of each page on ITF Seafarers, there is a logout link you can use. We recommend that you logout of MyITF at the end of your session viewing or posting on the site. If you are using a shared computer or one in a public space, ITF Seafarers strongly recommends you do not save your login information on the computer (do not select the 'Remember Me' box when logging in or 'Remember these Details' on the web browser) and logout when you have finished using it.
What if I have forgotten my password?
If you have forgotten your MyITF password, please click the login link at the top right of any page in ITF Seafarers and then select the 'forgotten Password' link at the bottom of the screen. Enter your email address and an email will be sent to you containing a link that invites you to select a new password.
