ITF supports push at the IMO for more women workers in maritime

29 Jan 2020

A resolution drafted by the ITF, the Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association (WISTA International), and several countries at the International Maritime Organization (IMO) has led to an initiative to increase the number of women working in the maritime sector.

This week, WISTA International signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the IMO, off the back of the resolution that commits IMO members to creating a barrier-free environment for women in maritime.

WISTA International covers female workers in all sector of the maritime industry, from seafarers to lawyers, through to workers in national administration and more.

The MOU commits IMO members to provide women seafarers with training opportunities, graduate-level education scholarships, more management-level jobs and more jobs at sea.
