UK detains four foreign ships

18 Jan 2019

The United Kingdom authorities detained four foreign-flagged vessels during December for failing port inspections, including poor conditions for crew and breaches of safety regulations.

The Russian Federation-flagged Kuzma Minin was found to have 13 deficiencies and was detained on six grounds, including an expired seafarers’ employment agreement, an expired Maritime Labour Certificate and insufficient provisions. The Russian Federation-flagged Darina was detained for all six deficiencies found, including poor personal equipment for fire safety, lack of onboard training and inadequate international safety management (ISM). The Netherlands-flagged Tracer had 12 deficiencies and was detained on three grounds, including inadequate fire doors and ISM. The Norway-flagged Vikingfjord had eight deficiencies and was detained for inoperative radio, inadequate ISM and an expired certificate for the master and officers.
