The Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 (MLC), otherwise known as the Seafarers’ Bill of Rights, incorporates and builds on sixty eight existing maritime labour conventions and recommendations, as well as more general fundamental principles, to ensure decent working and living conditions for all seafarers.
Produced by SRI, the animated films were commissioned by the ITF and funded by the ITF Seafarers’ Trust. They are part of an initiative to help seafarers understand their rights under the MLC.

In the East Asia event teams of ITF inspectors and dockers’ and seafarers’ union members will visit vessels in ports in Japan, Korea, Russia and Taiwan to inspect and enforce decent pay and working conditions.
“Workers and pensioners are deeply concerned about their jobs, their pensions and their future, especially as they have already had to pay the price of an irresponsible economic monetary system. The referendum vote makes clear that they decisively reject the dead end of austerity.”
The groundbreaking development means that over 80 percent of all seafarer cadets graduating from the Philippines each year will have received in-depth training in HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
Who's here? 26 countries are represented by the 36 young activists participating in the activist training at the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers centre. They work across a range of transport sectors; civil aviation, dockers, seafarers, road and rail.
Activity during the action week, 6-10 July, in the Far East took place in Japan, Russia's Far East, South Korea and Taiwan. In Japan, inspection teams visited 89 ships, reported faults and safety hazards, and took action to retrieve unpaid wages, found on board four ships.
