Tunisia signs up to the Maritime Labour Convention

7 April 2017

Tunisia has become the latest – and 82nd - maritime nation to ratify the Maritime Labour Convention 2006 (MLC), which sets minimum working and living standards for seafarers.

Tunisia has a merchant fleet of 85 vessels as well as seven major ports, and its maritime industry and port sector provide nearly 6,000 jobs. More than 200 merchant ships a day enter Tunisian waters.

The MLC will enter into force for seafarers working on board Tunisian-flagged vessels or in transit in the country’s ports on 5 April 2018.
