IMO maritime ambassador addresses ITF fisheries workshop

International Maritime Organization (IMO) “maritime ambassador” to Spain, Captain Antonio M Padrón, took part in a recent fisheries inspectors’ workshop organised by the ITF in Vigo, Spain. The aim of the workshop, which was attended by 20 ITF inspectors from different countries, was to focus on occupational and safety issues affecting the world fishing fleet.

Captain Padrón, who as an IMO maritime ambassador advocates for the maritime and seafaring professions, spoke on the IMO’s progress in the fishing sector, as well as the IMO’s international conventions on standards for fishing vessel personnel and on the safety of fishing vessels. He also spoke about programmes for maritime cadets.

The workshop, which was organised by Luz Baz, ITF inspector for north west Spain, also saw the participation of various authorities and representatives of agencies and companies in the fishing sector.
