UK detains 10 foreign ships

23 February 2018

The United Kingdom authorities detained 10 foreign-flagged ships during January 2018 after they failed port inspections.

Six of the vessels were new detentions. They included the Panama-flagged NAS Pathfinder which had 23 deficiencies and was detained for 11 of these, including a missing seafarers’ employment agreement and no endorsement from the flag state. It lacked charts and had poor emergency and fire safety equipment, rescue boats that were not ready and unsafe electrics. The Latvia-flagged Liva Greta was found to have 11 deficiencies and was detained because the ship’s structure was damaged. Other vessels were detained because they had no international safety management (ISM).
