Maritime charity expands into China

18 May 2018

The international maritime welfare charity, the Sailors’ Society, is to extend its operations into China. The Christian charity, based in the UK, works in ports in 30 countries, supporting seafarers to keep in touch with their families, responding to crisis and running education projects. It has now made its Crisis Response Network available to Chinese seafarers, both in mainland China and internationally. Although China supplies the largest number of seafarers globally, it offers no port-based welfare provision for them.

The charity is working with the support of Shanghai Maritime University to gain non-governmental organisation (NGO) status in China.
